Evacuation and Warning Zones

 NEW - Tuesday, August 8, 2026

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has split Evacuation Zones MRY-F037 and MRY-F038 related to the Plaskett Fire.

  • The new zones are: MRY-F037-A, MRY-F037-B, MRY-F038-A, and MRY-F038-B.
  • Zones MRY-F037-A and MRY-F038-A, south of Los Burros Road and east of Highway 1, are being downgraded from an Evacuation Order to an Evacuation WARNING.
  • The Evacuation ORDER remains in place for MRY-F037-B and MRY-F038-B.
  • Highway 1 closure will be moved to MM 10.5.
  • Tree Bones Campground will NOT open as a result of this change.

  • No zones are under a Shelter-in-Place order

A Shelter-in-Place Order means those who choose to stay must be prepared to sustain themselves for at least 7 days. If you cannot self-sustain for 7 days, leave the area now.

CAL Trans 3 September updatedHighway 1 Closure

Effective Tuesday, September 8th at 3:00 pm the south point of the closure moved to MM 10.5 (Just north of Gorda).

To ensure public safety and facilitate firefighting efforts for the Plaskett Fire, the California Highway Patrol will continue to implement a hard closure of Highway between MM19.0 (Kirk Creek Campground) and MM 10.5 (Just north of Gorda). Caltrans will continue to evaluate and clear any potential hazards before reopening the highway near the Plaskett Fire.

Evacuation and Warnings:

When an Evacuation Warning is issued, assume an evacuation order could follow. This is your window to get ready: pack a go-bag, gather essential items, and make arrangements, especially if you have pets, large animals, or if you need extra time or assistance to leave. All previously issued Evacuation Orders and Evacuation Warnings remain in effect.

An Evacuation Order means those in a specific area should leave immediately. If you feel that your life is in danger, do not wait for an emergency notification to take action. If your situation requires more time to evacuate than an immediate order to leave allows, consider leaving early to avoid delays due to traffic congestion.

A Shelter-in-Place Order means those who choose to stay must be prepared to sustain themselves for at least 7 days. If you cannot self-sustain for 7 days, leave the area  immediately.

Animal Evacuation & Sheltering

SPCA Monterey County is providing emergency rescue and sheltering support for animals impacted by the fires:

  • Small Household Pets: Accepted directly at official Emergency Shelter Locations.

  • Horses, Barn Animals & Livestock: Call SPCA Monterey County at 831-373-2631 (8 AM to 5 PM) or our after-hours emergency line at 831-646-5534 for assistance and sheltering locations. 

Temporary Evacuation Points (TEP)

Virtual Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP) will be operated 8 am to 6 pm from the Carmel Valley Branch Library.  

To call the TEP for information about evacuations and sheltering, please call 831-647-7760 or 800-322-6884 and press 1, then 4 to reach the Library.

The Temporary Evacuation Point can provide updated and reliable information on evacuation orders and warnings, refer evacuees to congregate shelter, and provide updated information on other aspects of the current emergency.
